Women and Youth Empowerment is a key focus of our initiatives, as women continue to face neglect in many communities across India. To address this, we organize monthly village-level meetings specifically for women and adolescent girls, creating safe spaces for learning and dialogue. These gatherings are often attended by illiterate women from surrounding villages, ensuring inclusivity and outreach to those most in need. With the active involvement of healthcare workers from both government and non-government organizations, we provide essential health education and awareness, empowering women and adolescents from tribal communities to make informed decisions and lead healthier, more confident lives.

Tribal youth are among the most important target beneficiaries of our organization, and we are committed to nurturing their potential through structured engagement. Our team actively identifies youth groups in villages and organizes periodic meetings to provide them with guidance and inspiration. Eminent speakers from diverse fields are invited to deliver lecture series on relevant topics, helping young people broaden their horizons and gain practical insights. At the heart of this initiative is our motto—to create awareness about healthy lifestyles and emphasize the importance of education—empowering tribal youth to lead productive, informed, and fulfilling lives.

Lack of leadership has long been a barrier to the social development of tribal communities, and AaSHRAY-DURG is committed to addressing this challenge by equipping tribal individuals with the skills to lead and represent their communities effectively. Through our Leadership Development Program, conducted in collaboration with various partner organizations, seven batches have already been successfully completed. Participants are trained on rural and social development issues, guided by experienced mentors who impart practical leadership techniques. As a result, nearly 200 tribal youth and community members have been empowered to take on leadership roles, many of whom are now actively working with different organizations in surrounding villages to drive positive social change and strengthen community development.

From 2008 to 2010, AaSHRAY-DURG operated a shelter home for senior citizens in Nashik, Maharashtra, with the aim of providing care, dignity, and support to the elderly. Although the initiative could not be sustained due to limited resources, it reflected the organization’s deep commitment to serving vulnerable sections of society. The shelter home offered a safe space for seniors, addressing their basic needs and ensuring they were cared for with compassion and respect.

Even after the closure of the shelter home, AaSHRAY-DURG has continued its efforts to support needy senior citizens and widows in its project areas. Through monetary assistance and provision of essential medicines prescribed by registered medical practitioners, the organization ensures that these individuals receive ongoing care and relief. By extending this support in Nandurbar, the team remains dedicated to improving the quality of life for elders and widows, reaffirming its mission to stand by marginalized communities even in the face of resource constraints.

To foster community participation in rural development, our organization regularly arranges meetings with families and youth across villages. These gatherings serve as a platform for exchanging ideas, sharing experiences, and discussing solutions to local challenges. By encouraging open dialogue, we empower community members to take ownership of development initiatives and strengthen their collective voice in shaping a better future for their villages.

Beyond discussions, each meeting is followed by hands-on activities that directly benefit the community. Participants devote time to cleaning water sources, maintaining school and hostel premises, and undertaking plantation drives to improve the environment. These collective efforts not only enhance the quality of life in the villages but also instill a sense of responsibility, unity, and pride among residents. Through such participatory actions, rural communities are steadily moving toward sustainable development and healthier living conditions.

The founder members of the organization are actively engaged in collecting used books and clothes from their friends and well-wishers, which are then distributed to needy individuals in rural areas. This simple yet impactful initiative not only supports education by providing reading material but also brings relief to families struggling with basic necessities, ensuring that resources are reused meaningfully while uplifting marginalized communities.

Aashray-Durg has always stood by communities in times of crisis, extending timely support to victims of natural calamities. When a devastating fire broke out on 24th May 2013 at Pimpri Pada village near Navapur, Maharashtra, completely destroying a family’s home, the organization immediately stepped in to provide relief. Essential supplies such as clothes, food grains, and utensils were distributed to help them recover from the tragedy, and further assistance was given to rebuild their house, ensuring the family could restore stability and dignity in their lives.
